Asha Jyothi believes that equipping single mothers, vulnerable girls and women from low-income communities with “employable skills” that lead to employment and eventual self-sustenance, is the best way to tackle the false promises of human traffickers.

Asha Employable Skill Training Centre

The Asha Employable skills training centre is one of the many projects that was begun with the goal of equipping women at-risk with skills that could lead them to employment and eventual economic self-sustenance. Over the last 12 years, women from various at-risk backgrounds including - single mothers, widows, migrant workers,  women from poor low-income families, girls rescued from trafficking, girls rescued from temple prostitution, women affected by HIV/AIDS, – have undergone a wide range of skill development courses. These include courses in basic computers, desk top publishing, beautician, spoken English, tailoring and maggam work. Since 2008, close to 6200 women have gone through courses at the Asha EST with another 1200 expected to graduate courses in 2020. Our courses have also been recognized by the Government of Telangana giving our graduating students an edge when they look for jobs. Close to 89% of students going through our courses have found jobs after graduation. Our students have also performed exceedingly well at their Government exams with close to 90% of them receiving a distinction upon graduation.

Asha Restoration, Transformation and Window of Hope Homes

These homes were started out of our learning that Employable skill training by itself especially in the midst of difficult and dangerous circumstance is less productive. For many years, Asha Jyothi had tried to provide employable skills to girls and women coming from backgrounds of extreme poverty, sex trafficking, HIV/AIDS and temple prostitution. While the girls were often able to pick up their new skills, they needed extra help to overcome their pasts and truly use these new skills to their full potential. The Restoration, transformation and Window of Hope homes were started with the desire to provide these women a safe place for 11 months where they would receive loving care, trained counselling and healthy food in addition to their skill training courses, thus enabling them truly escape their circumstances to be self-sufficient.

Asha Men’s employable Skill Training Centre

The Asha Men’s EST centre was set up with the intention of providing good quality skill training for school dropout boys and young men. Focused on practical training couple with actual on-job training, the boys spend upto 70% of class times working on actual projects under the supervision of their tutors. The three courses – Electrical and Electronics, Welding and plumbing have had huge success so far with a majority of the men receiving jobs immediately after graduation.
